7 Year Old Kathleen Edwards suffers from Huntington's Disease
If you’ve heard about Kathleen Edwards, the 7 year old girl withHuntingtons disease who has been taunted and bullied by the grown neighbours of her grandmother, you no doubt wondered how anybody could be so cruel and inhumane to treat anyone, no less a child, that way. Well, it seems a group of people from around the world felt the same and donated funds, to the tune of $17,500, so that Kathleen could go on a shopping spree at a toy store!
Little Kathleen was picked up in a white limousine and, along with a police escort, was driven to a local toy store to begin her day of fun. But, unlike other 7 year olds who would go crazy in a toy store, the first item Kathleen picked out was a toy frog for her father, because she knows he likes them. She also picked out presents for his 2 sisters.
Hans Masing is the owner of Tree Town Toys where Kathleen had her shopping spree, and the person who helped start the fundraiser after reading about Kathleen’s experiences;
“I empathize with Kathleen and her family about what they are going through,” he said.
And not only are the funds that were raised providing a great day for Kathleen and her family, but according to the Daily Record, 10% of the money will go to the Edwards family to help with costs, while any money left over from the girl’s shopping spree will be used to purchase toys for the Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan, kids in hospice, and other kids in the area with Huntington’s disease.
Kathleen’s father said, ‘”Let’s benefit some other kids, too. She’s not the only one suffering,” Ten percent of the $17,500 raised with his store’s help goes to Kathleen’s family to help with anything she may need. The money that is left over after the girl’s shopping spree will be used to buy toys for kids at C.S.Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan, kids in hospice, and other kids in the area with Huntingtons disease.
“Let’s benefit some other kids, too. She’s not the only one suffering”.
I’m so glad to hear that some good came out of this awful situation for Kathleen
